2000

Prior to forming Special Modern Design, Karen Barranco was the Creative/Brand Director at Red Ant Media Group U.S., where she provided overall design direction. She lead the implementation and extension of the brand experience for clients. 

 

1999

During the dot-com boom, she gained experience in the use of a variety of online services, content management systems and interactive techniques as Creative Director at a celebrity-based online magazine startup. 

  

1994-1999

Clients: Universal Studios Islands of Adventure, Warner Bros., NBC, Nestlé, DayRunner, Winfire, Countrywide, and MCA/Universal, UniverSoul Circus, Disney, Rembrandt...

 

Karen worked for five years as Creative Director at Evenson Design Group, a prominent design firm known for creating award-winning corporate identity systems, brand and merchandise development programs. She spearheaded the implementation of interactive design in the mid 90s.

 

 

 

 

 

Karen Barranco was the Creative Director on a large-scale project for Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure, for which she lead three Project Managers in creative design and development for thousands of products and packaging for Jurassic Park, Seuss Landing and the park's entrance, Port of Entry. The teams developed over 300 units of licensed, non-traditional theme-park retail merchandise for each "island". Every design was an extension of the corresponding story line.
