Designing a Bakery — from Scratch
Cake Monkey Bakery went from unknown to LA Weekly’s “Best of”. Breaking into a saturated industry requires more than a great product. A very bright entrepreneur, Lisa Olin, approached us with a great idea, a smart business plan, and an appreciation for what great branding can do. We love those kind of clients!
New e-commerce website coming soon….. in the meantime here is their menu site.
How was the brand was conceived? Clearly a product of its time. Cake Monkey represents a trilogy of pop culture of the time. Mixed together created the feeling we intended to demonstrate graphically once approved. The hipness of Carrie from Sex in the City; the excitement of Cathy (comic strip) when she hysterically screams “CAKE” when she spots some in her place of work; The retro-ness of Ms Betty Crocker always telling us to “enjoy”.
With this in mind, we make the connection to the consumer through her HEAD, HEART, and GUT. This example represents a single page of the Brand Development Document you will get when you let us brand your business.

Your Favorite Childhood Treats All Grown Up — Cake Monkey Bakery
“At Los Angeles’ Cake Monkey Bakery, every sweet snack is served with a slice of nostalgia. Their whimsical treats take you back to a time where lunches weren’t judged by the content of their kale salads but by the neon colors of their lunch boxes. A time where you could tell a lot about a person by their favorite flavor color—red, blue or purple… A symphony of sweet wrapped neatly in its little plastic wrapper.
“Cake Monkey is capturing the magic of those memories and filling them with buttercream filling. From chocolate creme sandwich cookies (giant Oreo’s) to toaster-ready tarts (ala pot tarts) this totally rad bakery is reinventing childhood treats that are better than we ever imagined possible.”
Don’t forget the hoho’s and the Hostess Tribute snacks.
