Los Angeles Designer, Karen Barranco Transforms NYC’S Historic Parkway Signage

starting with Jackie Robinson Parkway

Jackie Robinson’s son, David Robinson

FINALLY after about three years of designing signs for New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT)'s Historic Parkways— the first sign will be presented to the public tomorrow. update: SNOWED OUT

My story written on the plane on the way home: "I went to New York with my son for the presentation of the first of the twelve parkway signs I designed for the NYCDOT and the weather —-- snow, rain, wind—-- messed it all up for us. The unveiling was snowed out.

It's not all bad news, my son and I had a blast. The press event for the announcement of the Jackie Robinson Parkway sign should take place April 12, 2018 now— weather permitting of course. It wasn't just the weather entirely that kept pushing the date, it was also coordinating with the Jackie Robinson Family and City representatives.

Yep- crying in my diet coke. But I'm proud to have been the outsider trusted with such an important and permanent thing. I’m honored that my designs will set the standard for the future Parkway signs to come.
